1. Tim Burton, stop motion animation/ claymation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHLgob-PpIk The reason why I chose Tim Burton is because I really love his work. His work is creepy and abstract and that is what really makes me love his work especially his animation. The technique he uses, stop motion animation, is very unique, I love how it looks and how it all falls together, my favorite stop motion animation I love by him is The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride. Shape is a major one because he is using stop motion, stop motion mainly is used with clay figures, sometimes just little dolls and you need the shape of each character for the character to come to life, it is very evident. Movement is another major one he uses because the movement in the characters are important throughout any stop motion animation and is very evident. I have done a stop motion animation video in video production class and I understand how much time it takes and how every movement in it counts, you don’t want to move one thing incorrectly because it could mess up all the hard work you have just done. The music he uses can add on to any scene, especially when it comes to the creepier parts of his movie the music becomes anonymous like and dark, it works with any of his animations.
The reason why I chose Domics animation is because I really love his short animation videos, he doesn’t just make them for you to laugh at or anything like that he makes them to explain a part of his life. I love his art style, it’s not too complex, but it’s still enough to take quite some time. Line is very evident in his work, mainly because he focuses his animation on the character more than anything else, more than the background and so on. His animations are about life experiences and I can usually connect with them, I can connect many of my experiences with his. The music he uses in his video is mainly just background music, it’s very soft and simple, sometimes it barely sounds like any music is in it, same with sound.
The reason why I chose Netty Scribble is because her animation is cute and also she animates things she believes a scene would look like in a gamer’s video, by gamer I mean the gamers that play on youtube like cryotic, pewdiepie, cinnonmantoastken, etc. The one thing that really attracts me to her animation is how she portrays a lot of things, for example when the gamers get together and read fanfiction, they just record them reading, no visual or anything, she makes them into a visual and portrays exactly how many would in their heads as they read. Line is very evident in her animations, you can really see the movement as well with the lines, and everything comes together in a way that makes both of those two things evident. With the way she animates the videos, the things she’d image would happen if it was the audio with what many would have thought to happen, is something we’d all see, we all imaged it in one way and she made it come to life. Sound is the key thing she uses in her videos, when there is sparkles in a video you can hear it clearly, when there is an explosion she makes it sound powerful and so on, it makes her work very strong in each video.
4. How It Should Have Ended, all computerized/ occasional stop motion animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZkqC4Lz8dU I chose this animator because they take endings to movies and make them better and kind of realistic. One thing that really attracts me to their animation style is that they do things in a different sort of style, instead of it just being computerized it’s puppets (as the creator has stated when someone asked him about the animation style he uses). The one thing that is very evident is the movement in the characters, you can see how it is puppet like in his animations. Many people say: “oh you could have saved so much time if you just did this.” when it comes to movies, a lot of people can name different ways to save them time and how it should be more realistic, and he makes them come to life, makes short simple this is how the movie should have gone animations that are hilarious. The sound and music play major keys in his video because of the fact that you have to include the sound effects in things like explosions and so on, but occasionally you need some music to enhance the action, or whatever it is that is going on, he does this like if this was to be an actual movie.
5. Homestuck animation: [S] Rex Duodecim Angelus, all computerized: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-19Up0dLzNw All the animators are listed at the end. One thing that makes me really enjoy this animation is how close it is to the actual web comic. Homestuck is a long webcomic series and occisonally there will be short animations in it because Andrew Hussie (the creator of Homestuck) doesn’t need any words to show the action going on, the animators that made this animation make it look pretty much like it came out of the comic. What attracts me the most is how close it looks like if it actually came out of the comic, everyone knows it didn’t, but it just is so well done it looks like it could actually come from it. The variety is very evident in this animation because of how it goes from how it would be in the comic to it being more well detailed in the video, it goes from basic art to more detailed art. A lot of people question what happened throughout the trolls timeline in Homestuck, they jump around in their timeline, it never actually shows what they did, so many people came up with ideas of what happened, including myself, this animator is very spot on with how they defeated this enemy.
6. Paperman disney pixar short animation, all computerized
I chose this animation because I love pixar animation, and this is one of my favorite ones. I love the story behind this short animation, it’s very cute. Perspective was very evident in this animation through each point of view of each character and eventually the point of view for the paper airplanes as well. This represents just how small a town can be, i know this because I met someone a long time ago in first grade and then i moved and it turned out that they ended up moving there as well, we met again in 7th grade.
